Abstract
CNSC staff presented to the rationale and objectives of its research program on the safety of geological disposal to the UK's Environment Agency, and also discussed the progress of some of the projects being conducted within the program. The research program currently focuses on the long-term performance of sedimentary rocks and bentonite seals, natural analogues and paleohydrogeology, and the development of safety assessment tools. In conducting this research, the CNSC collaborates with national and international institutions, thereby building independent expertise and increasing its credibility. Research on crystalline rocks will be conducted in the future.
